This is the story of the World's Greatest Steel Orchestra, The Pan Am North Stars Steel Orchestra. North Stars started in the year 1950. In 1962, the band won the Music Festival in Trinidad and Tobago. That same year, they obtained sponsorship by the Pan Am Airline. Pan Am used the band to promote their destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. The band also toured the United States of America. In 1968, the band appeared at the Republican Convention that was held in Miami. The band also combined with another Trinbagonian named Winifred Atwell, who played her piano, in a series of concerts aptly named "Ivory and Steel, for performances in the Bahamas and New York.The Pan Am North Stars Steel Orchestra ceased to function in the year 1972.
