The Life I Recall charts the story of Cuthbert Joseph from birth and formation in a rural village, to active life in government and politics. The story unfolds in the imperceptible way childhood formation prepared him for service in an independent Trinidad and Tobago in the capacities of civil servant, student, university lecturer, statesman, diplomat, community worker and family man. The Book is an autobiography in a comprehensively human sense. The underlying theme is the objective of the human development of the People. The story is not about power politics. It is about the use of the tools of governance to advance the self determination of the People in the era of Independence. The story is heavily interlaced with a moral and spiritual dimension which lies at the root of human development at the local, national, regional and global levels. The book challenges the Nation, after fifty years of Independence, to embark on a cultural revolution to escape the current moral and spiritual crisis that has gripped the Nation.
