One Day Congotay: Caribbean Folklore Collection
A Celebration of Caribbean Folklore
In the heart of the Caribbean, where the air hums with ancestral whispers, lies a treasure trove of stories. These tales, passed down through generations, weave magic, mystery, and the very essence of island life. “One Day, Congotay,” is a remarkable short story collection that invites readers to immerse themselves in this richness of Caribbean folklore under the theme, vengeance and hope. Six writers were chosen to contribute their voices to this collection: Latoya Wakefield (Jamaica), Rianne Garvin (Trinidad and Tobago), Tyler Mahadeo (Trinidad and Tobago), Tamia Lashley (Guyana), Cosmata Lindie (Guyana), Gabrielle Mohamed (Guyana) and Marsha Gomes-Mc Kie (Trinidad and Tobago). Latoya’s prose dances between reality and the supernatural. Rianne’s story introduces us to Mama D’leau’s ancestral wisdom, while Tyler tells of Papa Bois' dedication to the forest. Tamia’s poetry breathes life into injustice, while Gabrielle shows us true justice from beyond the grave. Cosmata’s folklore unfolds in Guyanese coastal areas, where superstitions hold hidden truths of danger.
