We're thrilled to welcome Jamaican-Canadian poet @lillianallendubpoet to The Writers Centre! Join us on Saturday 21 February for readings from her decades-long body of poetic work, plus a conversation led by the Bocas Lit Fest's own Shivanee Ramlochan @novelniche. Saturday 21 February, 2026 5.30 pm @thewriterscentre, 14 Alcazar Street ️FREE and open to all Presented in partnership with the High Commission of Canada in Trinidad and Tobago @canada_tt As her publisher writes: "Lillian Allen is one of the leading creative Black feminist voices in Canada. Her work has been foundational to the dub poetry movement​,​ which swept across the Black diaspora in the 1980s, taking roots/routes in Kingston, Toronto, and London and offering exciting sounds of protest and a careful, detailed documenting of everyday life as political praxis." Copies of "Make the World New", Lillian Allen's selected poems, will be available for purchase from @paperbasedbookshop on the day of the event. The Writers Centre’s onsite café, the @sleepycatcafe.tt, will be open with a range of hot and cold beverages as well as delicious pastries and snacks for purchase.
