An Evening of Tea and Readings at Paper Based
Dear book lovers and friends of Paper Based,
We invite you to An Evening of Tea and Readings at Paper Based, our first of 2026, to be held on Saturday, June 20th, 5:30 pm, at The Writers Centre.
This marks our first-ever Evening of Tea and Readings onsite, since making The Writers Centre our home, and we're especially excited to welcome our time-honoured reading series to 14 Alcazar Street, St. Clair.
Our quartet of presenters will educate, entertain and enlighten you, with their expert insights into Caribbean history, fine art, memoir, and the steelpan.
Jeannine A. Cook, novelist, bookseller and activist, flies in to share a reading from her creative nonfiction debut, Shut Up and Read: A Memoir from Harriett’s Bookshop, an in depth and generous retrospective of her creative and community organizing lives, intricately intertwined.
Patricia Mohammed, pioneer in Caribbean feminist studies since the late 1970s and Emerita Professor of Gender and Cultural Studies at the UWI St. Augustine, will read from her authorized biography of the first female President of Guyana, Janet Jagan: Freedom Fighter of Guyana.
Savitri Rampersad, author of Steelpan Vibrations: Unlocking the Human Mind, will present scenes from her recently-launched publication, which probes connections between the human mind and T&T's beloved national instrument, prompting reflections on healing, communication, and more.
Che Lovelace, fine artist and son of the soil who has exhibited globally, joins us to reveal a close look at his first full-scale self-titled monograph, which assembles a wide range of his artworks in absorbing detail: the book is a treasure trove of Lovelace's iconic vistas, rendered in signature style.
Every day, your company and support prove to us that T&T and Caribbean stories matter, more than ever. We can't wait to celebrate them with you on June 20th.
Warm wishes,
The Paper Based Bookshop Team
